Backgrounds Esophageal Cancer is one of the commom clinical maligant tumors in digestive tract, which seriously threats to human life health. China is one of the leading countries with higher rates of Esophageal Cancer incidence, and its mortality rate ranks the first in the world. The early diagnosis of esophageal cancer is low, and its clinical progression is so rapidly that the prognosis is poor. Therefore, finding a biological marker to predict the occurrence and development of esophageal cancer, to evalue the clinical progression, prognosis and guide therapy is very important.Objiective By detecting the expression of eIF4E protein and VEGF-C protein in human esophageal carcinoma tissue, adjacent noncancerous tissue and normal esophageal tissue, to study their relationgship with clinicopathological parameters in esophageal cancer, and discuss their significance in the development of esophageal cancer. Find out the relationship between eIF4E and VEGF-C in human esophageal carcinoma. Provide an scientific basis for the early diagnosis、 effective treatment and prognosis evaluation of esophageal cancer. Methods In this study, using immunohistochemical method to detect the expression level of eIF4E protein、VEGF-C protein in58cases of esophageal cancer tissue,58cases of adjacent noncancerous tissue,30cases of normal esophageal tissue, statistical analysis their relationship with the clinicopathological features and their correlation in esophageal cancer.Results:1. The expression of eIF4E protein and VEGF-C protein in human esophageal carcinoma tissue was significantly higher than in adjacent noncancerous tissue (p<0.01) and normal esophageal tissue (p<0.01),while no difference between adjacent noncancerous tissue and normal esophageal tissue (p>0.05).2. The expression of eIF4E protein in esophageal carcinoma was statistically related with the differentiated degree, the depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and TNM stage (p<0.05); while had no relationship with patient age, gender and tumor size (p>0.05).3. The expression of VEGF-C protein in esophageal carcinoma was statistically related with the depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and TNM stage (p<0.05); while had no relationship with patient age, gender, tumor size and the differentiated degree (p>0.05).4. There was positive correlation between eIF4E protein and VEGF-C protein expression in esophageal carcinoma tissues (r=0.347,p<0.05).Conclusions:1.eIF4E protein and VEGF-C protein was highly expression in esophageal carcinoma tissues, low expression in adjacent noncancerous tissue and normal esophageal tissue.2.The expression level of eIF4E protein and VEGF-C protein in esophageal carcinoma increased with the deepening of the invasion depth, the occurring of invasion and metastasis, the developing of clinical stages. The expression level of eIF4E protein in esophageal cancer increased with the decreasing of differentiation degree.3.The expression of eIF4E protein and VEGF-C protein in esophageal carcinoma had no relationship with patient age, gender, tumor size. The expression of VEGF-C protein had no relationship with the tumor differentiation degree.4.There was positive correlation between eIF4E protein and VEGF-C protein expression in esophageal carcinoma tissues.
