Objective:Through the study of TCM syndromes of age-related macular degeneration(AMD) and changes in macular thickness in optical coherence tomography(OCT), we can analysis the correlation between the TCM syndromes of AMD and central subfield thickness, cube volume, cube average thickness, as well as the relationship between AMD and TCM syndrome type and age, course of disease, vision, explore the role of OCT in diagnosis and treatment of disease monitoring and the value of AMD. as well as the relations between AMD TCM syndrome type and OCT with age, gender, course of the disease, vision. Besides, explore the value of the OCT in the dry AMD diagnosis, treatment and disease monitoring. Methods:From March2012to March2013,65patients with AMD received OCT examination in Jiangsu Provincial Hospital eye clinic. According to TCM syndrome, they were divided into type of liver and kidney deficiency, phlegm accumulation type and type of stasis blocking collaterals, record the patients’ medical history, clinical evidence to designate, eye examination, including corrected visual acuity, OCT examination and fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) data, and observation of the distribution between the TCM syndromes of AMD and macular thickness (including central subfield thickness, cube volume, cube average thickness), as well as the relationship with age, disease duration, visual acuity, to analysis whether there is a correlation between them.Results:1.Analysis of the general situation:AMD is divided into two types of dry and wet by the Western medicine. no significant correlation between these two types and gender; the incidence of AMD increases with the increase of age, in the small sample statistics, The most common age ranges from70to79; in disease duration, patients with wet AMD disease is shorter than dry type; in vision, the best corrected vision of dry type patients is better than wet type.2.in this study, there are65patients collected, which are divided into three type, including liver and kidney deficiency, phlegm accumulation type and type of stasis blocking collaterals. In gender, there are no difference between three types; In the age aspect, patient who is type of stasis blocking collaterals is younger than other two types; in the course of comparison, there is no significant difference between three types; In visual comparison, patients of stasis blocking collaterals type have poorer vision than other two types, who always have low vision; At the same time, the patients of stasis blocking collaterals type include the high proportion of wet AMD, because wet AMD patients have CNV or local exudation, hemorrhage, correspondent with TCM Blood Stasis symptoms.3.The relationship between TCM syndromes of AMD and macular thickness:in the analysis of this study, we found that the patients of stasis blocking collaterals syndrome have the larger value of macular thickness (including central subfield thickness, cube volume, cube average thickness) than type of deficiency of liver and kidney and type of phlegm accumulation.that has the statistical significance. The results showed that the larger macular thickness can be considered the existence of the pathological factors of blood stasis. Conclusion:There is significant difference(P<0.05) in macular thickness between the AMD patients with stasis blocking collaterals syndrome and other two types, including central subfield thickness, cube volume, cube average thickness, the former has larger measured values than the latter two. By the cirrus OCT,we can observe AMD patients’ macular morphology. At the same time,we can follow up and track the course of AMD,can predict disease progression, monitoring the treatment effect of disease. This noninvasive method has useful and important value at clinical observation of AMD occurrence and development and the results of treatment.
