Objective:The study was to survey the cognitive level and protective ability of clinical nurses to the unintentional injury of hospitalized patients, and analyze the influence factors of clinical nurses’ cognitive level and protective ability to the unintentional injury of hospitalized patients. The survey was designed for the clinical manager to improve the level of clinical nurses, the correct understanding and dealing with the happening of the unintentional injury and to provide reliable theory basis. Methods:We took the stratified sampling method and selected two of the three levels of first-class hospital clinical nurses in Shandong Province. The questionnaire survey to2hospitals was operated by stratified sampling according to the departments of Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics and The Health in all cases. Then we used self-designed questionnaire to investigate the clinical nurses, which was divided into three parts, mainly including the general information of the nursing, the unintentional injury of relevant knowledge, the unintentional injury protection. The content of the questionnaire and the law with documents were established by the entry access method and the Delphi method. Preliminary investigation was operated before formal investigation, and then according to the result of preliminary investigation and experts’ evaluation, a formal investigation questionnaire was started after the completion of modification. This survey described the knowledge level of clinical nurses for accidents, the protection level of unintentional injury, the analysis of clinical nurses’cognitive level and the influence factors of protection to unintentional injury of hospitalized patients.Statistical analysis was operated by SPSS13.0software package and the measurement data was expressed by (x±s) and analyzed by t test between groups. Knowledge and nursing personnel protection acted as the dependent variable, while nurses’ age, working years, job title, position, cultural degree acted as the independent variables for the logistic regression analysis.Results:1. Clinical nurse’ knowledge of hospitalized patients with injury scores7.40±1.42, with of the range3to10. Clinical nurses’protective ability to the unintentional injury of hospitalized patients scores24.65±3.70with the range8to36.2. The single influence factors analysis in the basis material of clinical nurses’ knowledge level to the unintentional injury of hospitalized patients, the years of the working and educational levels made significant differences (P<0.05), while the single influence factors analysis in the basis material of clinical nurses’ injury protection work for the hospitalized patients, the lengths of the working years made significant differences (P<0.05).3. Logistic regression analysis showed that the educational levels and length of working years was the significant factor of clinical nurses’knowledge level ability to the unintentional injury of hospitalized patients (P<0.05).The length of working years was the significant factor of clinical nurses’ protective ability to the unintentional injury of hospitalized patients (P<0.05).4. In the9factors which influenced nursing staff’s injury protection for hospitalized patients, the top five factors hindering the nursing staff’s protection ability were:no systematic training content (62.37%), nursing human resources allocation and low (60.26%), incoopearation of patients(60.26%), be short of written assess guide(55.39%), unsafe hospital environmental facilities (54.21%).Conclusion:The survey found that nurses’ knowledge of hospitalized patients with injury situation was not optimistic, the master of the accident harm on the hospitalized patients did not achieve a good level of knowledge and a mistake existed. The present situation of nursing staff’s injury protection for the hospitalized patients was grim. In clinical activities, the access to the relevant knowledge of nursing staff was relatively single which was mainly through the hospital education and highly-educated colleagues. The influence factors of nursing staff’ cognitive situation of injury of hospitalized patients was not a single aspect. For the personnel aspect, the education, working years of the nurses were both adverse factors for the cognitive ability of nursing staff to the unintentional injury of hospitalized patients. And in the9factors which influenced nursing staf’s injury protection for hospitalized patients, no systematic training content was the highest factor. According to these factors, nursing managers should strengthen the training, guidance and supervision of the clinical nursing nurses’ learning and examination, improve clinical nurses’ knowledge and protective ability to deal with the unintentional injury of hospitalized patients and to reduce the probability of accidental harm in hospitalized patients, ensure patients’ safety and the normal operation of hospital.
