Objective: The aim of this study was to systematically evaluate the effectiveness andsafety of treating coronary heart disease and angina by the blood-activation therapy. Methods: Clinical randomized controlled trials and half randomized controlled trialswhich were about treating coronary heart disease and angina by the blood-activationtherapy were searched from China National Knowledge Internet (CNKI), China BiologyMedicine disc (CBM), China medical information resources system (VIP), Wanfangdatabase, Cochrane and PubMed database (each database was searched from the time itwas built to July2012). Based on the Cochrane system evaluation method, the trialsqualified were brought into this study. After quality evaluation and data extraction,Meta-analysis was carried out with RevMan5.1, as well as heterogeneity test, sensitivityanalysis and funnel diagram analysis.Result:1. there were233articles found according to the search strategy. We chose12studies and1074patients from them by reading the titles and the summaries.2.Meta-analysis shows: the total effective rate of the group treated by blood-activationtherapy [OR=4.10,95%CI(2.25,7.45),P<0.00001], the total effective rate of the anginasymptoms[OR=3.92,95%CI(2.46,6.25),P<0.00001], the total effective rate of the ECGs[OR=2.63,95%CI(1.70,4.06),P<0.00001], the total effective rate of the traditionalChinese medicine syndromes[OR=5.10,95%CI(1.88,13.80),P<0.00001], the recurrencerate of the angina symptoms [OR=0.26,95%CI(0.13,0.49),P<0.00001]. The treatmentgroup is significantly better than the control group in total effective rate, the effective rate of the angina symptoms, the effective rate of the ECGs and the effective rate of thetraditional Chinese medicine syndromes. The treatment group also has significantly lowerrecurrence rate of angina symptoms than the control group.3. The three studies did notreport any adverse reaction, nor did the other studies. It shows that the blood-activationtherapy is quite safe. Conclusions: The result of this systematic reviews shows that it is safe and effectiveto treat coronary heart disease and angina by the blood-activation therapy, and it hardlycauses any adverse reaction. However, we still need the key data of long-term effects tosupport the above viewpoint. Because the chosen studies have poor quality and publicationbiases, we also need a large-scale research which has high quality and characteristics ofChinese medicine to further support the above viewpoint.
