| Parkinson’s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder of unknown cause, commonlyseen among the middle-ageed and old. According to statistics,10-405people will get PDout of100,000population. It was reported that patients with PD would strongly feel theirbodies disabled during being attacted by the disease for10-15years. The underlyingetiology of PD is still unknown but its main lesions occur in Nigra and Striatal Dopaminepathway. PD is characterized in the progressive death of dopaminegic neurons in thesubstantia nigra pars compact(SNc) and consequently the loss of dopamine(DA) in thestriaturn and the growing activity of cholinergic system with the patients having tremor,myotonia, bradykinesia, abnomal gait syptoms and so on. Effective treatment hasn’t beenfound for PD. Although levodopa has been used as the most common pharmaceuticalsubstitution treatment, its effects become increasingly adverse in the long term. Stereotaxytreatment achieves effects in a short time, but it cannot work as well as expected. Researchon gene therapy offered one new method to cure PD, however there’s still a long waybefore it steps into clinical practice from experimental stage without solving problems suchas immunological rejection and ethics at first. Traditional Chinese medicine plays anunique role in treating PD for side effects it brings about are lighter and patients haven’tshowed much resistance to drug, motor symptom getting improved. In this way, Chinesetraditional medicine is well worth of being introduced to clinical treatment.Object On the base of the disease symptoms, traditional Chinese medicineclassified PD as Chanzheng, Zhenchan, Zhendiao and so on. My tutor, trying to find allrelevent information on the disease documented throughout the ages and carefully studyingit from TCM(traditional Chiese medicine) theory, offered the idea that kidney deficiency and obstruction of collaterals by blood stasis led to PD basically. By clinical practice, hefound Bushen Huoxue Tongluo Capsule achieved surprising effect on PD patients. Thethesis aims to evaluate the clinical effect and safety of BHTC my tutor prescribed, to get abetter knowledge of the disease through the Chinese treatment, to make a further researchon the work Chinese medicine has done and will do.Method120PD patients were entrolled in the randomized control trial(RCT). Thepatients were randomly divided into two groups(60each): treatment group (BHTC andwestern medicine,peros) and control group (western medicine only, peros). The course oftreatment lasted for3months. Each group received evaluation4times through UnifiedParkinson Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) and Life Quality Rating Scale of Parkinson’sDisease (PDQ) on the time of pre-treatment and three months post-treatment respectivly torecord patients’ mental, behavioral and emotional state(UPDRS-I), daily activites(UPDRS-II), motor function test(UPDRS-III), motor complications(UPDRS-IV), lifesatisfaction index(LSIB) and Life Quality Rating Scale of Parkinson’s Disease (PDQ). Thetwo treatments’ clinical efficiency, patients’ motor function recovery, etc. were evaluatedand compared.120cases took part in the experiment as planed. All the data were analizedthrough SPSS17.0statistical software. Measurement data were expressed in x±s. U test,variance analysis, rank sum test were conducted for group comparison. Enumeration datawere analized with x2test. P<0.05is statistically significant.Result The two group’s age, sex, course of disease, Hoehn-Yahr, dysfunction degreewere compared before the treatment. As P>0.05, the group comparison is significative.Each evaluation after three months treatment showed that treatment group got moresatisfiying theraputic efficiency than the contrast group(P<0.05). The study estabilished acomprehensive treatment program for Parkinson’s disease.Conclusion①BHTC has an obvious effect on PD patients by reducing toxicityand enhancing efficacy, reducing the risk of getting physically disabled. BHTC combinedwith western medicine can improve motor function and living activity ability of PDpatients better than western medicine only.②Taking liver and kidney deficiency andcollaterals obstruction by blood stasis as pathogenesis, the treatment works on nourishingliver and kidney, removing blood stasis and freeing vessel. Some clinical effects have beenachieved so far.③Bushen Huoxue Tongluo Capsule hasn’t arisen obvious side effects onpatients.④The study has some limits: the sample size is not big enough to be a strong proof of clinical effect; Considering PD is chronic, our evlaution of the capsule’s clinicaleffect is time-dependent. |
