Study On The Situation Of Abuse Tendency And The Correlation Between Caregiver Burden And Abuse Tendency Among Family Caregivers Of Elders With Dementia

Objectives: To investigate the situation of abuse tendency, theinfluential factors of the family caregiver’s abuse tendency to dementiapatients and the caregiver burden; To exploit the correlation between familycaregiver burden and abuse tendency among family caregivers of elderswith dementia for preventing and decrease the bad things according tosome effective nursing measures.Methods: The cross-sectional survey research method was used byhospital for support and community service center to rely on in the maindistrict of Chongqing.Totally242family caregivers for the dementiapatients in Chongqing were received investigations by the caregiver abusescreening, questionnaires of Caregivers Burden Inventory and thehomemade general information of dementia patients and caregivers and theinformation were analyzed.Results:(1) Abuse tendency was83.5%in family caregivers.(2) Themean score of burden was56.82±6.45. The first three items with higher score in all the burden items were physical burden（13.06±1.54）timedependence burden (15.35±1.43), and emotional burden (11.74±1.07)respectively.(3) Logistic regression analysis showed that the cognition oftaking care of behavioral, the time of providing care for, elderly patients withdementia behavior and mental symptoms and care capacity were theinfluential factors of the family caregiver’s abuse tendency to dementiapatients in community.(4) The total score of abuse tendency was positivecorrelated with burden (P<0.05).Conclusions:(1) It was common for the family caregiver’s abusetendency to dementia patients which seriously threat to the dementiapatients,quality of life, so attention to dementia patients was urgentlyneeded.(2) We should attend to the life situation of dementia patients andprotect their rights and interests. Therefore kinds of measures should betaken to lower the risk for abusing the dementia patients for the purpose ofincreasing their quality of life.(3) The heavier was caregiver burden, themore was the possibility of abuse tendency. The measures of healtheducation and nurse support should be taken so as to reduce caregiver burdenand the rate of abuse happening.
