| PurposeTo investigate the value of transthoracic echocardiography(TTE) formeasuring the dimension of patent ductus arteriosus(PDA)in transcatheterinterventions. To compare64-slice spiral CT and TTE-measured innerdiameter of PDA in children with complex congenital heart disease(CHD).Methods1.424cases with PDA underwent transcatheter intervention between2004and2011with136boys and288girls,age ranged from3months to15years.For all424cases,TTE and angiography measurements of innerdiameter of PDA were obtained before therapy. The measurements of TTEand angiography were compared.2.87cases with complex heart disease between2004and2012with34boys and53girls,aged from1d to7years,underwent TTE followed by64-slice spiral CT. The data were analyzed.Results1.For the small type group and the typical type group, there was statistical difference between TTE and angiography. For the ones whosebest narrow diameter of PDA higher than8mm which was measured byTTE,there was no statistical difference.2.There was no statistical difference between TTE and64-slice spiralCT.10cases were missed diagnosed by TTE and one was missed diagnosedby both TTE and CT.Conclusion1.TTE plays an important role in selecting patients, but can’t take theplace of angiography. In order to reach the best diameter of PDA, acomprehensive analysis of the measurements of angiography and TTEshould be done.TTE and angiography complement each other, both of themare indispensable.2.A correlation was found between TTE and angiographymeasurement of the inner dimension of PDA (Pearson’s correlationcoefficient=0.80,P <0.01),the TTE measurement was generally largerthan angiography.3. We should note that whether TTE measurement is too small forsome large PDA.4.There was no statistical difference between TTE and64-slice spiralCT in measuring the inner diameter of PDA.For some complex CHD andthe PDA which is too small and too short,CT is superior to TTE. |
