Objective: To evaluate the biocompatibility of the ceramic drainage device afterexperimental glaucoma surgery in the rabbit, the permeability of the device after acuteintraocular hypertension was observed.Methods:9New Zealand rabbits were used in these experiments. The ceramic drainagedevice was implanted under the limbus on the right eyes as the experimental group. Oneend of the device was implanted into the anterior chamber about1mm, as the other end ofthe device fixed at the sclera with a10-0silk suture. At last we sutured the conjunctive. Inthe control group,2ml syringe needle was used to do the anterior chamber paracentesisfrom sclera, and then we sutured the conjunctive. The intraocular pressure of the rabbitswere measured on preoperative and postoperative3d,7d,14d and28d.The condition of theocular anterior segment was observed. Three rabbits were selected respectively and randomon postoperative day7、14and28. Both experimental eyes and control eyes were removedand performed the pathology HE staining. At last, check the reaction of the rabbits ovulartissue. The permeability of the device was observed after acute intraocular hypertension onpostoperative day7、14and28.Result:1.Compare the intraocular pressure of the experimental group and control group onpreoperative and postoperative3d,7d,14d and28d. The intraocular pressure ofexperimental group and control group was statistically significant differences onpostoperative day3than the preoperative day(P<0.05). The intraocular pressure was notstatistically significant on postoperative day7、14and28than the preoperative day(P>0.05).2. HE staining shows the inflammatory cell around the filtration passagesgradually reduced from postoperative1w to postoperative4w in experimental group. Andthe filtration passages still open on postoperative28d.3. Experimental group can form thefunctional filtration blebs on postoperative day7、14and28after acute intraocularhypertension. Conclusion: The ceramic drainage device has good biocompatibility, few postoperativecomplications and less local tissue rejection. The permeability of the ceramic drainagedevice is good on postoperative7d、14d and28d.
