Objective: To observe the expression of the Aquaporin-1(AQP-1) innucleus pulposus cells and the fibrous ring cells of intervertebral discdegeneration. and discuss the relationship with intervertebral disk degeneration.Method:Thirty intervertebral disc samples were selected from the prolapse oflumbar intervertebral disc patients in surgery. Experimental group were madefrom30cases with lumbar disc protrusion disease, include protrusion, extrusionand sequestration type,10samples in each type. Control group were made from10cases of lumbar spine fracture in traumatic. The immunohistochemistry wasused to detect the expression of AQP-1in lumbar intervertebral disc.Result:①Hematoxylin-eosin staining showed that intervertebral disc still maintains adense lamellar structure in the control group and the intervertebral disc tissuepresent fibrotic changes in the experimental group.②The expression of AQP-1in nucleus cells of each groups were significantly higher than these in thefibrous ring(P≤0.01).③The expression of AQP-1in the protrusion specimen of experimental group was significantly lower than that of control group(P<0.01), and AQP-1expression in extrusion type and sequestration typespecimen was significantly lower than that in the protrusion specimen (P <0.01).Conclusion: Along with the intervertebral disc protrusion, extrusion andsequestration different degree degeneration, AQP-1expression has a gradualdecline.
