Background:We previously reported that the chromosome8p22-p23, on which ZDHHC2gene exists, has high frequent Loss of Heterozygosity[LOH] in hepatocellular carcinoma [HCC]. LOH of ZDHHC2associates with early metastatic recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma after liver transplantation. Meanwhile, mRNA expression of ZDHHC2in HCC is lower than normal liver tissue. We aimed to indicate the association of ZDHCC2and HCC, and the potential value of ZDHHC2as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool of HCC.Methods:We adopted HCC cell lines for protein expression studies, built a recombinant plasmid of ZDHHC2and analyzed its influence to tumor biological behavior of HCC cell lines. Results:The expression of ZDHHC2protein was reduced in HCC cell lines. High expression of ZDHHC2in HCC affected biological behavior of tumors, and inhibited HCC cell proliferation. Conclusions:The abnormal expression of ZDHHC2correlates with onset and development of HCC. The ZDHHC2is a potential tumor suppressor gene, and may play an important role in development, invasion and metastasis of HCC.
