We accessed the outcome by perceptual speech assessment, clinical records, rate of velopharyngeal insufficiency, telephone follow-up and recheck information. The patients were from March2007to January2013in the department of oral and maxillary surgery,1st affiliated hospital of Zhejiang University. Results:Sixteen subjects got their velars rasied and good function of the sphincter muscles. After two weeks of postoperative, all subjects decreased the hypernasality and nasal emission. All the subject’s voice outcome was improved. The results showed that the sphincter pharyngoplasty surgery was significant effective. Conclusion:Review to sixteen patients showed that sphincter pharyngoplasty surgery have significant effective in speech outcome. For the patients over sixteen, they lost the best chance to do surgery. With a constant articulation and significant palate cleft, the sphincter pharyngoplasty can close the pharyngeal cavity in maximum extent. After surgery, the patient would got articulation improved well with systematic speech training.
