Natural products are recognized as occupying a different region of “chemical space” than typicalsynthetic compounds and have substantial structural diversity and frequently afford newmechanisms of biological activity. Eriocalyxin B natural compound was regarded as thepromising candidate for new anticancer agent because of its potent activity and novel mechanismof action. This study was carried out to investigate in vitro Eriocalyxin B, natural plant effect onbreast cancer estrogens receptor alpha positive MCF-7(ER+) and estrogens receptor alphanegative MDA-MB231(RE-) cell lines, on cell proliferation,, and apoptosis. we performedMTT assay, flow cytometric analysis and western blot.. The results revealed, for the first time, that Eriocalyxin B significantly decreased the cell viability of MDA-MB231, Flow cytometricanalysis demonstrated that Eriocalyxin B markedly induced apoptosis of MDA-MB231. in adose dependent manner. Further characterization showed that EriB involved in the down-regulation of Bcl-2and activation of caspase-3before culminating in apoptosis in Eriocalyxin B-treated MDA-MB231cells. Results suggesting Eriocalyxin B should be further examined for inin vivo activity in human breast cancer.
