Objectives: To investigate the clinical characteristic and outcomes of229hypertrophic cardiomyopathy(HCM) patients. Methods: To retrospectively analysis229HCM patients encountered in the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical Universityfrom Feb.1999to Aug.2011, and we performed clinical follow-up (median4.1years).Results: Among the229patients,65.5%(n=150) were men. Symptoms in most of patientswere nonspecific and9.6%patients did not have symptoms. Females symptomatic agewas older than males(P<0.05). The most common complications were hypertension(n=67,29.3%), coronary artery disease(n=23,10%) and arrhythmia(n=40,18.3%). Changes ofelectrocardiogram in HCM were nonspecific and13.1%were normal(n=30). Thecommon pattern were ST-T changed and the left ventricular hypertrophy(37.0%). Atrialfibrillation(AF) occurred in8.7%of patients which was the most common sustainedarrhythmia. The incidence of AF in females were higher than males(P<0.05).79patients(34.50%) suffered from hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM), theleft ventricular posterior wall thickness(LVPWT), interventricular septum thickness(IVST)and left atrial diameter(LAD) of HOCM were higher than the hypertrophic non-obstructive cardiomyopathy(HNCM) patients(P<0.05), but symptomatic age, familyhistory of HCM and complication had no clinical statistics significance contrast to theHNCM patients.90.4%(n=207) patients were treated with β-blocking agents and(or) non-dihydropyridines calcium antagonists,35cases were treated by intervention therapy, including pacemaker implantation(n=13,5.7%) and percutaneous transluminal septalmyocardial ablation (PTSMA)(n=22,9.6%). Only1patient was dead in hospital. Duringfollow-up,12patients were dead and3patients were sudden death. Conclusions: Theclinical characteristic of HCM are nonspecific, the most patients were treated by medicine, and the outcomes of most patients were good.
