Objective To analyz the risk factors of benign and malignant lesions in solitary pulmonary nodules(SPN)(diameter≤3cm).Methods106operated cases with SPN of the department of thoracic surgery from Oct2007to Aug2011were selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria.Their clinical data were reviewed.Factors which maybe mostly affecting the doctor to judge the SPN was benign or malignant were selected through reported document and clinical experience. Chi-square or t-test were used in univariate analysis of age, gender, symptoms, the location, size and radiological characteristics of nodule, and logistic regression in multivariate analysis. Results There were54malignant SPN cases (50.9%) and52benign SPN cases(49.1%) in all106cases. According to Chi-square test,t test and logistic regression analysis, age, size, radiological characteristics and visceral pleura shrinkage have a great relationship in□ifferentiating benign and malignant SPN. Otherwise, not all cancers in SPN are early-stage lung cancer. Conclusions The age and size can be regarded as risk factors for assessment of benign and malignant lesions meanwhile radiological findings also contribute to a differential diagnosis. For suspected malignant lesions, surgical treatment should take active.
