Data Analysis Of Renal Cell Carcinoma Database Of The First Hospital Of Zhejiang Province

ObjectiveOur aim was to analyze the clinical characteristics of renal cell carcinoma(RCC) and unveil the current status of diagnosis and treatments in our hospital.MethodsWe reviewed948consecutive patients who were diagnosed as renal cell carcinoma between2009and2011, used AJCC TNM staging system for kidney cancer(7thed.,2010), WHO classification of renal carcinoma(2004) and the Fuhrman grading system(1982).ResultsIn the study, a total of948patients were evaluated, with638males and310females. There was a2.06:1.00predominance of men over women, with the peak incidence occurring between the ages of40and70.73.6%of RCCs were detected incidentally while25.7%of them had symptoms. Bilateral RCC, left RCC, right RCC were diagnosed in9(0.9%),449(47.4%) and490(51.7%).799patients(83.6%) were classified as pTl,93(9.8%) as pT2,46(4.9%) as pT3,10(1.1%). as pT4.948 patients(99.6%) were treated surgically,499of them(53.2%) underwent open radical nephrectomy,165(17.6%) underwent laparoscopic radical nephrectomy,174(18.6%) underwent open partial nephrectomy,96(10.2%) underwent laparoscopic partial nephrectomy,148(15.8%) underwent lymph node dissection. There were952tumor samples in all,736of them(77.3%) were diagnosed as clear cell RCC,44(4.6%) as papillary RCC,42(4.4%) as chromophobe RCC,9(0.9%) as collecting-duct carcinoma,22(2.3%) as multilocular cystic RCC,2(0.2%) as mucinous tubular and spindle cell carcinoma.ConclusionsRoutine health examination could be an important method to detect early stage RCC. Open radical nephrectomy is the most often used surgical technique so far in this study.
