Objective: To investigate the effects of dexmedetomidine on postoperativecognitive dysfuction(POCD) in elderly patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Methods: Eighty patients(ASAⅠ~Ⅱ, aged65~80) scheduled for selectivelaparoscopic cholecystectomy were randomly assigned to two groups: groupD(Intravenous dexmedetomidine0.2μg/kg/h after the induction of anesthesia),groupN(The same volume of normal saline),40patients in each group.Cognitive function testswere done with the simple mental state examination (MMSE) scale on the preoperative1day and the first and postoperation1and3day. Results: No significant difference existson preoperative1day in both groups. There were significant differences betweenpreoperative and postoperative in both groups, the cognitive dysfunction rate of D groupwas lower than N group on the first day after the operation,Group N still appearedPOCD(5%),while group D completely recovered. Conclusion: Dexmedetomidine canreduce the incidence of POCD in elderly patients after laparoscopiccholecystectomy, which may be related to the mechanism of brain protection and givecertain reference to the prevention and treatment of POCD.
