| Objective: Brucellosis, caused by Brucella spp, is a zoonotic infectious disease.Although it occurs worldwide, brucellosis is more common in developing countries. Theaim of this study is to describe the epidemiology, clinical manifestations, laboratoryfindings, treatment and long term prognosis of Brucellosis in Xinjiang,China。Methods: This is a retrospective descriptive study (from January2005up to July2012),the subjects of which are composed of146patients (from Infection Disease Center of FirstAffiliated Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University, Urumqi, China). In this study thediagnosis of Brucellosis is based on serology, isolation of brucellae from blood, bonemarrow, or other tissue accompanied with clinical signs and symptoms. Results:we had146patients with Brucellosis. The mean age was41.62±14.2y, and80.1%of them were men(M/F=4.03). April to August was the peak season. History ofclose contact with farm animals, history unknown and absence of history was found in50%,40.4%and8.2%of the cases respectively. In the agricultural and pastoral areas, suchas Tacheng and Aletai, brucellosis is more prevalent than elsewhere。The presentingsymptom in97.3%of the cases was fever,39.7%had history of hyperhidrosis during thecourse of the disease.34.2%of the cases was joint pain。Splenomegaly, hepatomegalyand lymphadenopathy were found in28.8%,14.4%,11.6%, of patients respectively.Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-Reactive Portion (CRP) and rheumatoid factors(RF) were found increasing in80.9%,83.7%and62.5%of patients respectively. Thetherapeutic regimen of our patients was rifampin+doxycycline, rifampin+Quinolone,after6weeks of treatment cure-rates reach to97.6%.Conclusion:Incidence of Brucellosis increases year by year, and brucellosis is morecommon in Xinjiang. So in the treatment of febrile patients, we should think possibility ofbrucellosis, can increase diagnosis rates, specification the antibiosis treatment. |
