ObjectiveBrachytherapy with radioactive particles of125I is more and more researched bydomestic and foreign scholars for its good effect on normal tissue damage, target areaorganization dose distribution uniformity, health care security, etc.125I has been used inprostate cancer, head and neck, lung and so on many kinds of tumor, and has achievedgood effect, but in the application of tongue cancer and post-operative complicationsreported less. We implanted125I in normal rabbit tongue, discussed the pathologicaldamage, studied rabbit normal tongue body organization’s radioactive damage withthe different dose and different time of125I, provided the evidence of the clinicaltreatment of oral malignant tumor such as tongue cancer wtih125I, and protecting thesecurity of the surrounding normal tissues.MethodsTotally54rabbits were randomly divided in to treatment and control groups.125I seedswere implanted in to the tongue of the rabbits in the treatment group at a dose of60,120Gy.While in the control group,seeds without activity was inserted.The generalcondition,W BC,ATL and CR count,gross and pathology changes of the portal vein ofthe rabbits were observed in7,30,60and90days after the implantation.ResultsNo hemorrhage or death occurred afte the implantation in the treatmentgroup.Comparative analysis of the various vital signs found that single-double dosegroup and shell particles group to show a downward trend in food intake, body weight, and it would recovered after reaching the peak, but the double-dose group was muchslower than Single-dose group with statistical significance. Laboratory examination justas WBC、ALT、Cr,we found it has no statistically significant. We also found it was aslight injury on normal tissue with the single dose by pathology, and graduallyreturned to normal after the half-life. But the tongue injury of double-dose group,hadits persistent injury and delay the recovery time.ConclusionsTongue body tissue by the radioactive125I particle close after irradiation will appearcertain organization pathology changes.The125I seeds implanted into the tongue canresult in as light injury at a dose of60-120Gy,recoverability. The injury increases withthe duration and dose of the125I seeds implanted in60days.During the60-90d,not thedepth,but on a declining curve. Treatment for tongue body organization withexperimental dose of125I is safe.
