Patchouli oil is extracted from the patchouli’s leaf which is a kind of traditional Chinese medicine. Patchouli oil contains wide grandiflorum, sweet alcohol, ketone of patchouli oil, clove phenol, cinnamic aldehyde and other effective ingredients. Patchouli oil has been widely used in the industries, such as medicine, food, cosmetics etc. because of its unstable active principle, easy Volatile loss, stimulating smell, not easy to store, to transport and variegated pharmaceutical dosage form etc. so its effect and range of action are limited. Microcapsule technology can protect the core material, control release and change form. The purpose of this study lies in the use of the advantages of microcapsule technology.Making Patchouli oil into microcapsule not only can retain the Patchouli oil’s Characteristics, but also can cover its stimulating smell, keep the active principle and Control the rate of release. Microencapsulation turns fluid oil into flour, which can be more convenient to the imbursement, transportation and application of Patchouli oil. Therefore, the patchouli oil microcapsule has important practical significance and research value. This study uses the Research Method of complex coacervation, the Patchouli oil to be Core material, the chitosan and the gummi arabicum to be the wall material, with all the above, Patchouli oil microcapsules get completed. Chitosan is a natural alkaline polysaccharides, while Arabia rubber is a kind of natural plant gum, which can keep the using safe. Since both of the two materials get the cheap price and Extensive sources, to be the wall materials look quiet well. Preparation of microcapsules needs the operation of the three parts which respectively for emulsification, complex condensation and crosslinking curing. During the study, the fators like the kinds of chitosan, the consistence and proportion of the wall material, the proportion of t the kinds of core material and wall material ratio, emulsifying conditions, pH etc, which have been got systematic study and Process optimizing. Though the fore preparation, the best conditions to make Patchouli oil microcapsules can be confirmed as follows:using low viscosity chitosan with concentration of0.5%, arabic gum concentration of4.0%, the proportion of raw material to medicine was2:1, the complex coacervation reaction PH value was4.5, Using vanillin as crosslinking agent and stirring speed was in2000r/min.After Detecting the obtained microcapsules by UV and figuring the content of Patchouli oil by standard curve, the content of Patchouli oil in the obtained microcapsules can be calculated, its drug loading was26.1%, the encapsulation rate is about62.62%. Being examined by biological microscope, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), The sphericity of the microcores prepared by Complex condensed is good, Most of the microcapsules’surfaces are smooth. By being measure the particle sizes by laser scanning, the complex coacervation microcapsules average particle size is17μm, this is up to the mustard; thermogravimetric (TG) and infrared spectrum (IR) analysis showed that patchouli oil is the embedding of success. The results of microcapsule slow release performance showed that the microcapsules had a good slow release effect and good storage.
