| Objective: To investigate the18F-FDG PET/CT imaging features of pituitaryadenoma and analyze the significance of the diagnosis of18F-FDG PET/CT withpituitary adenoma. Methods: This study consisted of16cases in the Neurosurgery Department ofShenyang Military District General Hospital The Clinic from July2011to January2012. In these cases,8were male and8were female. The cases’ general clinicalcharacteristics, pathology and surgery data were recorded and retrospectively analyzed. All of the cases conduct MRI and18F-FDG PETï¼CT examination preoperatively. We divided pituitary adenomas into three types based on the endocrine examinationsand tumor pathology results: non-functional adenomas (8cases), prolactinoma (PRL)(3cases),growth hormone (GH) adenomas(5cases).According to the tumor size, pituitaryadenomas were divided into three types: micro adenomas(3cases),macro adenomas(7cases),giant adenomas(6cases). In addition, we divided pituitary adenomas into threetypes based on tumor texture: non-fibrous (12cases), moderate fibrous (3cases) andfibrous (1case).When18F-FDG PET/CT was imaging, the standard uptakevalue(SUV)of pituitary adenomas were measured. The correlation between SUV andgenderã€pituitary adenomas’ pathologic typeã€the size and the texture of the tumor wereanalyzed by statistics.Results:1. The pituitary adenomas showed homogeneously increased radioactivityuptake in18F-FDG PETï¼CT.2. In the30th minute,18F-FDG PET/CT examinationdetection rate at93.7%,and delay18F-FDG PET/CT examination detection rate at100%. In the30th minute,a case of18F-FDG PET/CT examination showed a falsenegative result. In the50th minute, delay18F-FDG PET/CT examination showedpunctiform increased radioactivity uptake.3. There was significant differences betweennon-functional adenomas and GH adenomas’ SUV (P<0.01). There was significant differences between non-functional and PRL adenomas (P<0.01).There was nostatistically significant difference between GH and PRL adenomas (P>0.05).4. Themacro adenoma and giant adenomas’ SUV showed increases with the tumor size. Therewas statistical significance in the contents of SUV among micro adenomaã€macroadenoma and giant adenomas(P<0.05).5. There was no statistical significance betweengender and SUV (P>0.05).6. There was no statistical significance between thenon-fibrous group and moderate fibrous group (P>0.05).Conclusion:1.18F-FDG PET/CT imaging could be used in diagnosis research ofpituitary adenoma;2.Delay18F-FDG PET/CT imaging could improve the positive rateof pituitary micro adenomas;3.Non-functional adenomas of18F-FDG uptake werehigher than GH and PRL adenomas of18F-FDG uptake;4. The bigger the volume ofpituitary adenoma, the more pituitary adenoma of18F-FDG uptake;5.Pituitaryadenomas of18F-FDG uptake were not relevant to the gender;6.18F-FDG PET/CTimaging could not forecast pituitary adenomas fibrosis. |
