Objective: To observe the brain activated area by tasks of face mood recognition(neutron, angry, happy face) of adolescents in the higher and lower testosterone levels,discussion some effects from testosterone on emotional processing with functionalmagnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) technique and Chinese facial affective picturesystem.Methods:10healthy young males with higher testosterone levels and10healthyyoung males with lower testosterone levels were scanned by3.0Tesla Philipus fMRIunder tasks of happy, neutral and angry facial pictures. The imaging signal date wasanalysis by SPM5, and association was evaluated between the testosterone levels andthe neural active density in some brain regions.Results:⑴There were no significant different activity of the brain areas induced by happyfacial picture between the higher and lower FT group; but an significant different beobserved in angry face emotion task;⑵Active brain domains under task of happyemotional facial cognition in the higher FT group include of Left frontal lobe precentralgyrus, postcentral gyrus; Left middle temporal gyrus, Left cingulate gyrus; Righttemporal sub-gyral; Right insula.⑶Active brain domains under task of happyemotional facial cognition in the lower FT group include of Right middle frontal gyrus,Right superior temporal gyrus.⑷Active brain domains under task of happy emotionalfacial cognition in higher FT group minus FT group include of Left inferior parietallobule, Left superior frontal gyrus, Left middle temporal gyrus, Left inferior temporalgyrus, Left middle frontal gyrus, Left precentral gyrus, Right precentral gyrus, Rightcingulate gyrus.⑸Active brain domains under task of angry emotional facial cognitionin higer FT group include of Left frontal Sub-gyral, Left superior temporal gyrus, Right cingulate gyrus, Right precuneus, Right insula, Right frontal Sub-gyrus.⑹Active braindomains under task of angry emotional facial cognition in lower group include of Leftinferior gyrus, Left precuneus, Left frontal lobe sub-gyral, Left cuneus, Left inferiorsemi-lunar lobule, Right inferior semi-lunar lobule, right cerebellum anterior lobe.⑺Active brain domains under task of angry emotional facial cognition in higher FTgroup minus FT group include of Right superior frontal gyrus, middle frontal gyrus,inferior frontal gyrus, postcentral gyrus, Right cingulate gyrus; Left inferior parietallobule. Left insula.⑻.The more brain transactivation of angry stimulation comparedwith happy stimulation in higher FT group inclued:right middle frontal gyrus, rightinferior frontal gyrus.⑼.The more brain transactication of happy stimulation comparedwith angry stimulation in higher FT group inclued:left frontal lobe(sub-gyrus),left andright tonsil of cerebellum.⑽.The more brain transactivation of angry stimulationcompared with happy stimulation in lower FT group inclued:right parietal lobe(sub-gyrus),left precuneus.⑾Active brain domains under task of neutron emotionalfacial cognition in higer FT group include of Right precentral gyrus, Right cingulategyrus, Left superior temporal gyrus, Left paracentral lobule.⑿Active brain domainsunder task of neutron emotional facial cognition in lower FT group include of Rightoccipital lobe calcarine, Left parietal sub-gyral.'Active brain domains under task ofneutron emotional facial cognition in higher FT group minus FT group include of Leftsuperior frontal gyrus, middle frontal gyrus, Left and Right postcentral gyrus, Leftinferior parietal lobule, Right parietal lobe sub-gyral, Left insula.'Positive correlationsuggested between the FT level of higher FT group and the activate density of Leftprecentral gyrus (r=0.654), Left temporal lobe (r=0.632), and also Right temporal lobesub-gyral (r=0.639) under the happy face recognition task, and Right island (r=0.644)Right precuneus (r=0.632) under the angry face recognition task.Conclusions:1. Human facial emotional cognition involving more regions under the cortex andcerebral cortex in processing angry emotional than in process happy emotions. Negativeemotions (angry) process relate mainly to the right hemisphere brain regions, whichhappy face emotional processing mainly involved the left hemisphere.2. More activate brain regions involved emotion processing was observed inhigher FT than lower FT level group.3. FT level are correlated with3activate brain regions (Left precentral gyrus,temporal lobe, Rright temporal lobe sub-gyral) under positive emotion processing, and correlated with2brain regions(Right island, right precuneus) under angry facial moodcognition.4. In higher FT level group, activate brain regions under task of angry facialemotion similar to neutron’s, suggested negatively drift from negative to neutron.
