CFPS as a kind of polysaccharide biological response modifier, had been reposed that can regulate the immunologic function such as increasing the quantities of T-cell, B-cell, M(?), LAK, NK-cell, IL-2, published by many pre-clinical studies. It is, in the aspect of treatment of tumors, mainly used in the combination of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, ancillary drug therapy and the improvement of prognosis. To investigate the immunomodulation and anti-lung cancer activity of water-soluble polysaccharides from Codium fragile, the experiments were performed using different methods; Inhibition rate of CFPS on the A549cell line, the C57BL/6J mice spleen lymphocyte proliferation, Spleen lymphocytes and M(?) antitumor effects were assessed by MTT assays. The effect of CFPS on phagocytosis of macrophages was studied by neutral red method. The effect of CFPS on the level of cytokine secretion, tumor growth, the impact of the spleen and thymus of the LLC-bearing mice spleen was detected by ELISA method and statistical analysis. The results show that, In vitro, CFPS, when concentrations higher than103μg/ml, inhibits the growth of A549cells. While5*102μg/ml, it can significantly enhance lymphocyte proliferation and phagocyte activity of M(?)(p<0.05), improve their anti-tumor effects. In vivo, CFPS group tumor inhibition rates were39%,42%, compared with the control group, the difference being statistically significant (p<0.05), the levels of IL-1, IL-2, IL-6, IL-10, IL-12, IL-18, IFN-y, FAS-L in tumor-bearing mice serum, compared with the control group, are significantly improved(p<0.05).CFPS in vitro and in vivo has an inhibitory effect on tumor cells. It achieves effective anti-cancer activity and immune regulation through improving the immune response level of immune cells.
