Objective To evaluate the changes of the visual pathway of POAG,by MR-DTI, anddetermine whether DTI-derived parameters correlate with disease severity.Methods30patients with known POAG and35age-matched healthy volunteers wereexamined.Disease severity was clinically assessed with use of a six-stage system based onstatic threshold visual field parameters. All subject underwent imaging on a GE signa HD-xt3.0T system utilizing a DTI sequence and normal MRI sequence. All the original data wereprocessed by GE workstation. fractional anisotropy (FA),average diffusion coefficient(Dav), relative anisotropy (RA), volume ratio aniso(VrA),maps of dorsal visual pathway inthe POAG patients were compared with the healthy controls and the correlation between thePOAG group and the clinical stages were further made.p<0.05is statistically meaningful.Results1.eight patients, fifty optic nerves of the POAG patients look like moretenuity, optic nerve sheaths turn a little widen, but the signal Was normal. The fiber of opticnerves and radiation were sparseness compare with normal groups.2.In POAG group, the FA、VrA、RA values of optic nerves and radiation decreaseobviously(p<0.05), the Dav values increase obviously(p<0.05).3.The DTI values of the normal side of POAG patients with monocular damage comparewith normal groups is statistically meaningful.4.The disease severity of POAG patients was correlate with part DTI-derived parameters.5.Compare with normal groups, the optic nerve presented more severe injuries than that ofthe optic radiation (p<0.05). 6.In control group, no correlation was found between left and right sides(p>0.05).Conclusion The study confirms that varying degrees of degenerative changes happento optic nerve, optic radiation about the POAG,and refer to both sides eyes;the optic tractpresented more severe injuries than that of the optic radiation. The changes prompt that theDTI multiparameter can promote the diagnosis of POAG,and quantifying the disease severityof optic nerve loss of visual function in POAG.
