Objective: Through case control study, sum up patients who was suspected of asthma atthe General Hospital of Ningxia medical University during7months. To assess thediagnostic value of functional ehaled nitric oxide(FENO) measurement in the diagnosis ofbronchial asthma. Methods:305subjects were collected in the study who suffered chroniccough or wheexing at the General Hospital of Ningxia medical University from October2011to May2012. At first, all of them underwent bronchial provocation/dilation test andFENO test. Then, in accordance with2010The Global Initiative for asthma (GINA), wecollected266patients whose bronchial provocation/dilation test was positive as case group.Left39patients were collected as control group. Through independent-samples t test tocompare case group with control group in age, sex, height, weight, FVC, FEV1, PC20FEV1.Compare FENO test with traditional method through chi-square test. At last, we assessed thediagnostic value of functional ehaled nitric oxide(FENO) measurement in asthma cases.Results:305subjects were collected in the study, there were266cases in case group and39cases in control group. In case group153patients whose bronchial provocation test waspositive, and31patients whose bronchial dilation test was positive..There were114malecases and153female cases in case group. Their average age was (39.69±12.52), averageheight was (163.61±7.69)cm, and the average weight was (64.33±10.37)kg. Level of FVCbefore bronchial provocation/dilation test was (3.60±0.95)L, FEV1was (2.75±0.82)L, PEFwas (5.93±1.87)F, PC20FEV1was (7.68±5.22) mg/ml, and the FENO level was (59.00±50.37)ppb. There were13male cases and26female cases in control group. Their average age was (41.10±13.31), average height was (161.30±7.99)cm and the average weight was(61.34±13.33)kg. The level of FVC before bronchial provocation/dilation test was (3.38±0.94)L, FEV1was (2.65±0.97)L, PEF was (5.65±1.55)F, PC20FEV1was (7.68±5.22)mg/ml, and the FENO level was (59.00±50.37)ppb.The level PC20FEV1in asthma groupwas lower than control group[(7.68±5.22)v(12.50±0.00),P<0.01]. FENO in asthmagroup was higher than control group[(59.00±50.37)v(14.44±6.62), P<0.01]. Thesensitivity of FENO test was70.30%, and the specificity was84.62%. The positivepredictive value was92.12%and the negative predictive value was67.65%. There was nosignificantly difference in diagnosis of asthma between traditional method and FENO test(P>0.05). Conclusion: The diagnostic value of FENO test is similar to bronchialstimulate/diastolic test in asthma diagnosis. It will improve the diagnostic sensitivity andspecificity when combined FENO test with bronchial stimulate/diastolic test. The FENO testhas some clinical value in the diagnosis of bronchial asthma.
