Objective: To study the influence on anterior chamber angle structure andintraocular pressure (IOP) of phacoemulsification and intraocular lensimplantation.Method: Phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation wereperformed in60eyes of51patients whom were divided into two groups:onegroup with shallow anterior chamber and narrow anterior chamber anglestructure, another group with normal anterior chamber structure. All of thepatients were measured values by ultrasound biomicroscopy(UBM) ofACD(anterior chamber distance), TIA (trabecular iris angle), AOD500(angle-opening distance at500μ m from the scleral spur), and TCPD(Trabecular ciliary processes distance) at the time before surgery and1monthand3months after surgery. At the same time, gonioscopy was performed on allof them and the results of their visual testing and IOP were also recorded.Result: In both groups, the measurements of ACD, AOD500, TIA andTCPD were increased significantly and the IOP was reduced significantly afterthe operation(P<0.05).The measurements and the IOP changed moresignificantly in the shallow anterior chamber group than in normal anteriorchamber group(P<0.05). After the operation, the visual acuity of all the patientsimproved(P<0.05).The composition of angle of each quadrant had statisticallysignificant difference pre-operation and post-operation(P<0.05),and wide-angle increased significantly after surgery.Comparing each result one month aftersurgery with three month after surgery, there was no significantdifferences(P>0.05).Conclusion: Phacoemulsification and foldable intraocular lensimplantation can significantly deepen the anterior chamber, open the anteriorchamber angle, reduce the IOP and improve the visual acuity of the patients.Sothat it can avoid the occurrence of glaucoma and can be a surgery method oftreating angle-closure glaucoma combined cataract patients.
