| Objective: To investigate serum estrogen estradiol (E2) levels of lung cancer patientsand the expression of the estrogen receptor (ER) and its clinicopathologicalsignificance in order to provide a new way for the prevention and treatment of lungcancer.Methods: By using chemiluminescence to detect serum estrogen E2level in48casesof lung cancer patients (male33cases,15cases in postmenopausal females) and40cases of healthy check-up (male20cases,20cases in postmenopausal females),using immunohistochemical ready-to-use two steps to detect the expression of ERlevel in67cases of lung cancer tissue and55cases of normal lung tissue adjacent tocarcinoma, and analyze its relationship with clinical pathological features.Results: Serum estrogen E2level in lung cancer group is significantly higher thanhealthy control group (P<0.01).Serum estrogen E2level of the male patients in lungcancer group is significantly higher than male healthy control group (P<0.01). Serumestrogen E2level of the postmenopausal women patients in lung cancer group ishigher than the healthy control group (P<0.05).There was no significant differencewith serum estrogen E2level between men and postmenopausal womenpatients(P>0.05). Positive expression rate of ER in lung cancer tissue wassignificantly higher than normal lung tissue adjacent to carcinoma (P<0.05). Therewere no correlations between positive expression of ER in lung cancer tissue andgender, age, tumor histological types, tumor size, lymph node metastasis and clinicalTNM staging (P>0.05), but positively related to the degree of tumor differentiation,differentiation degree is higher, the ER positive expression rate is higher. The mediansurvival time of28lung cancer patients with ER positive expression was36months,39lung cancer patients with ER negative expression with a median survival time for 27months. The median survival time was statistically different between two groups(P<0.05).1-year,3-year and5-year survival rates were also statistically differentbetween ER positive expression and negative expression in lung cancer patients(P<0.05).Conclusions: Serum estrogen E2levels of lung cancer patients increased significantly.ER expression in lung cancer tissues was significantly upregulated, and theexpression of ER is closely related to the degree of tumor differentiation andprognosis of lung cancer patients. Therefore, E2and ER play an important role in theoccurrence and development of lung cancer and ER can be used as biologicalindicators of prognosis in lung cancer patients.Anti-estrogen endocrine therapy isexpected to open up a new way for prevention and control of lung cancer. |
