Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between differentindexes of islet β-cell function and glucose metabolism chance through comparingislet β-cell function in obese women with different glucose metabolism.Methods:168women were enrolled between April2005and December2012.According to obesity (BMI≥25.0Kg/m2) and oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT),theywere individed into four groups:31non-obesity with normal glucose tolerance (NGT),50obesity with NGT,57obesity with impaired glucose regulation (IGR),30obesitywith diabetic mellitus (DM).All subjects underwent intravenous glucose tolerance test(IVGTT) to calculate acute insulin secretion phase (AIR), the ratio of the peak insulinand basal insulin (insp/ins0),the ratio of acute insulin secretion phase and basalinsulin (AIR/ins0), insulin resistance index (HOMA2-IR) and glucose dispositionindex (DI).Results:Compared with the non-obese NGT group, the obese NGT group had higherAIR and HOMA2-IR (p <0.01), lower insp/ins0and AIR/ins0(p <0.01), DI was nosignificant difference. In the four groups, with glucose metabolic deterioration,HOMA2-IR increased,AIR increased at first and then decreased, insp/ins0, AIR/ins0and DI all were decreased. There was no statistical difference in HOMA2-IR betweenobese IGR group and DM group. After BMI, waist-to-hip ratio, blood pressure andtriglycerides adjusted, there were significantly negative correlations between bloodglucose and AIR, insp/ins0, AIR/ins0, DI, there was no correlation between bloodglucose and HOMA2-IR. Based on the diagnostic abnormal glucose metabolism ofOGTT,the cut-off points of DI, insp/ins0, AIR/ins0in the diagnosis of abnormalglucose metabolism were301.63,4.98,6.47. The Kappa value of DI, insp/ins0andAIR/ins0were0.549,0.539,0.541,higher than insp, AUCins, AIR, ins10.Conclusion: The islet β-cell function was decreased in obese women with differentglucose tolerance. DI, insp/ins0, AIR/ins0were most closely related with glucosemetabolism change.
