Small animal Positron emission tomography (PET) permit us engage molecular level imaging in vivo,so small animal PET is one of the best tool in medical molecular level image. PET systems have important effect and the prospect of application in many filed, such as diagnose and research in cancer, angiocardiopathy and cerebrovascular disease, development of new drugs. PET detector and electronics design is an important part of the system design. This paper describes the detector module, address coding and the front-end electronics design and implementation.1. Silicon photomultiplier (SiPM,also called a Geiger-mode avalanchephotodiode) is a promising semiconductor photosensor in PET and PET/MRI because it is intrinsically MRI-compatible and has internal gain and timing properties comparable to those of aphotomultiplier tube. This article describesthe advantages of silicon photomultiplier compared to traditional photomultiplier. In addition the future of small animal Positron emission tomography based on SiPM is also discussed.2. The source data, Positron Emission Tomography acquired, need to be processed into a sinogram form data which can be used for image reconstruction.Parallel beam tomographic reconstruction and fan-beam tomographic reconstruction is two methods of image tomographic reconstruction, respectively, corresponding to parallel beam data processing and fan beam data processing. The processing of the original data inevitable destruct integrity of original data. Nowadays, Positron Emission Tomography commonly used the method of parallel beam image reconstruction. Parallel beam data processing will change original data by data interpolation operation, the fan beam data processing avoid data interpolation operation. In this paper, we studied the impact of data interpolation on PET image reconstruction by results comparing of the parallel-beam image reconstruction and fan-beam image reconstruction.3. We used LYSO scintillator coupling SiPM (Silicon Photomultiplier) in the detectormodule design.27detector modules arranged the detector ring, which have eight slice. In order to meet the high resolution requirements in small animal PET, we use a newTechnology in the detector module design to improve spatial resolution, this technology has declared national invention patent.
