Cleistogenes songorica is an important wildlife forage of desert grassland in northwest China. System selection and ethylmethanesulfone (EMS) chemical mutagenesis were used for selecting turf Characteristics of Dibble Cleistogenes songorica. Reproductive cycle and pollination methods were observed. A series of experiments were carried out in greenhouse and field. The main results are as the follows:The experiments suggested that seeds treatment with EMS were mutageniced. At lower concentrations (0.2%-0.4%) germination rate did not change significantly, while the higher concentration (0.8%) germination rate decreased significantly. With concentration increasing and the treating time extending, germination potential showed a decreasing trend. The treatment of lethal is concentrations of0.8%at room temperature for18h.Total26plants were selected according to traits such as the height, tillers, leaf color, green period In the field and greenhouse. Plants selected and controls were significantly different(P<0.05). It was confirmed that pollination way was self-pollination through the greenhouse experiments. Winter dormancy existed of Cleistogenes songorica even when the temperature was suitable through the observation of reproductive cycle in greenhouse.
