Foot and mouth disease (FMD) is a kind of infectious disease caused by Foot and mouth diseasevirus (FMDV), which has a character of acute, fever, high contagious, spreads rapidly and high morbityin cloven hoofed animals. FMDV has a large range of susceptible animals, which cover more than70species of domesticated or wild animals in20family. The World attaches the great importance to itsresearch because of its great potencial financial losses, also, it was listed as OIE list-disease,infectionsand infestiations in force by OIE.From2010to2012, the outbreak of serotype O/Mya98of foot-and-mouth disease virus in China andEast Asia have caused attracted so much attention around the world. These isolates were widespread inswine and caused severely damage. So it was so important to analysis its genetic variation, biologicalcharacteristics, difference of pathogenicity, molecular basis of variation to control and eliminate thestrains.Given this, we collected the isolates of serotype O/Mya98of FMDV from2010to2012in China, then the VP1of these strains and the full genome of two typical isolates named O/BY/CHA/2010andO/GZ/CHA/2010were sequenced and analysed, next the biological characteristics and the pathogenicityin swine and cattle of these two isolates were studied. The results were presented as follows:1. The strains of O/Mya98of FMDV which has been found in China were came from South-eastAsia nations and its homology with the group epidemic in SEA was above95%.2. The domestic isolates of serotype O/Mya98of FMDV introduced from abroad in different timeshas formed different evolutionary line, and the diversity among them was larger to15%.3. The host range of serotype O/Mya98of FMDV has extended from ruminant to swine, cattle, sheep and goat, etc.4. The homology of full length genome of O/BY/CHA/2010and O/GZ/CHA/2010with otherisolates in Mya98lineage were above98%.5. An amino acid L was inserted at position10of L protein and70nucleotides deletion wasoccurred in fragment Sof isolate O/GZ/CHA/2010.6. The LD50of O/BY/2010was8.0and its TCID50was7.5, the LD50of O/GZ/2010was4.5and itsTCID50was4.5.
