China is one of the world’s countries of contamination by arsenic and plants may be damaged or to be death in arsenic stress. GSH is a tripeptide, it play a role that scavenging reactive oxygen species and as plants generate Phytochelatins. In this experiment, we use the hydroponics for experiment to explore the effects of exogenous GSH on morphology, physiology and biochemistry of plants under arsenic stress. we investigated the growth, chlorophyll content, photosynthetic gas exchange parameters, membrane permeability index, antioxidant enzymes and non-enzyme system in two poplar varieties (Populus×euramericana’Zhonglin2025’, P.xeuramercana ’I-45/51’) that had be choosed in early test for the study.There are main results:1. The arsenic treatment inhibited the growth of two poplar varieties.Added GSH relieved depression, and it can disinhibition at low concentrations of arsenic. In addition GSH also maks stem growth returned to control levels.2. Arsenic destroyed the photosynthetic system of plants, it can decrease chlorophyll content of the poplar which the decrease with chlorophyll b is greater than chlorophyll a; As test time goes by, arsenic stress leads to reduced of photosynthetic rate, while causing the descent in stomatal conductance and the rate of transpiration. The decrease of net photosynthetic rate was mainly caused by non-stomatal factors in two kinds of poplars, and the net photosynthetic rate with I-45/51decline earlier than2025. Added GSH increased the net photosynthetic rate in arsenic stress.3. Arsenic treatment induced two poplar varieties MDA content, and it resulting in the increased of the electric conductivity. Meanwhile, the presence of low concentrations of arsenic stimulated SOD of I-45/51in root, both POD and APX in roots and leaves; It also can destroy the I-45/51SOD of leaves, and destroy POD, APX in roots in the high arsenic concentrations. To the2025, the SOD, POD, APX were rised in arsenic stress. GSH can be effectively improve the activity of the enzyme,lead to lowed MDA content under stress and reducing the injury of the membrane system.4.The concentration of arsenic at50u M increased AsA content of I-45/51in roots, but reduced the AsA content in roots at100μ M arsenic treatment. Exogenous GSH can effectively improve AsA content in leaves. Moreover, added GSH can be effectively absorbed by poplar and increase the capability of plants to remove ROS and become more resistance to heavy metals.
