Using the land level input-output data of moso bamboo management collected from households, the authors analyzed the cost-benefit status and carbon sequestration capacity of moso bamboo in amanagement cycle under different management orientations and site conditions comparatively. Bybuilding the management decision-making model including carbon revenue, we simulated and analyzedthe changes of the present value of profit, the management orientations and the carbon sequestrationcapacity on regional level under different circumstances. Then we revealedthe growth mechanism andmanifestations of potential carbon sequestration. The results showthat:(1)The profits differs from management orientations greatly in a management cycle, and the annualprofit per hectare is separately2,800Yuan,2,400Yuan and1,900Yuan of stem&bamboo shoot forest, stem bamboo forest on suitable and moderate appropriate land;(2)Theirtotal input cost and it’scompositionare different, the annual total input cost are separately5,700Yuan,5,000Yuan and2,600Yuan per hectare of different management orientations, of whichlabor cost contains59%,62%and81%;(3)The carbon sequestration capacity differs greatly also, which are separately3.98tC,4.69tC and3.28tC per hectare annually;(4)Under baseline scenarios, the annual profit and carbon sequestration volume of differentmanagement orientations differs a lot, and the total carbon sequestration volume is1.87million ton inZhejiang Province, in which stem&bamboo shoot forest, stem bamboo forest on suitable and moderateappropriate land, desolation bamboo forest contains53.1%,22.6%,15.7%and8.6%separately;(5)The change of labor costs has the most significant impact on the decisions of managementorientations. It will lead to bamboo forestry deserted, and thus the carbon sequestration capacitydropped substantially when the labor costs raises to some certain extent. Besides, the raising of carbonprices, bamboo stem prices and fertilizer prices will also have more significant impacts on the decisionsof management orientations and the promotion of total carbon sequestration capacity on regional level, and the rising of discount rate will significantly decrease the regional carbon sequestration capacity, but limited influence for bamboo shoots prices. In conclusion,(1) With the change of policies and market environment, such as labor cost, bamboo culms price, bamboo shoots price and carbon price, etc., the profit of different management orientations bambooforest will change correspondingly and further impact on farmers’ decision-making of differentmanagement orientations and carbon sequestration capacity.(2)In order to cope with the challenge of rising labor costs on China’s bamboo industrydevelopment and the objectives of increasing carbon sink, it is necessary to establish forest (bamboo)carbon sequestration compensation mechanism as soon as possible.(3)In the future, studies on carbon transfer after harvesting and carbon sequestration of bambooproducts should be strengthened so as to make a scientific and comprehensive evaluation on carbonsequestration capacity of bamboo forestry.
