Study On The Problems And Solutions Of Rice Seed Quality In Zhejiang

The methods of literature review, questionnaire survey, field interview and indoor testing were adopted to analyze seed quality status of rice from the data of variety purity, seed purity, moisture content, germination percentage, seed vigor and so on, surveyed in seed companies and administrative departments in Zhejiang.The main research results were showed as follows:The status of rice seed quality:1. There was92percent of the questionnaires showed that variety purity of conventional rice seeds accorded with the national standard, and98percent of the questionnaires showed that variety purity of hybrid rice seeds coincided with the national standard.2. There was79percent of the questionnaires showed that the moisture content of indica rice seeds corresponded with the national standard, and100percent of the questionnaires showed that the moisture content of japonica rice seeds corresponded with the national standard;3.There was100percent of the questionnaires showed that the germination percentages of conventional rice and hybrid rice seeds reached the national standards.4. There was100percent of the questionnaires showed that the seed purity of conventional rice and hybrid rice corresponded with the national standards.5.There was100percent of the questionnaires considered that seed vigor was very important, and73percent of the questionnaires showed that the vigor index was tested in seed companies and the germination potential was widely applied in vigor testing.6. The first important links affecting rice seed quality was production, then storage, and the last was processing.The main problems of rice seed quality:1. Variety purity was the most prominent problem of rice seed quality.There was8percent and2percent of the questionnaires showed the variety purity of conventional rice and hybrid rice did not meet the national standards, respectively.2.There was21percent of the questionnaires showed that seed vigor was not tested in seed enterprises, which was related with vigor index that did not included in GB directly.3.Production was the first link affecting seed quality,while the processing was not paid enough attention to.Suggestions and countermeasures assuring rice seed quality:1. The cultivation of seed industry talents, particularly those engaged in breeding and seed production should be paid attention to.2. The promotion of institutional innovation was the key to assure seed quality. At the same time, self-discipline of seed companies should be strengthened.3. Purity assurance should be attached during the process of seed production.4. Vigor testing should be included in seed quality testing standards for the more scientific and comprehensive evaluation of rice seed quality.
