The study started from the application status of Metasequoiaglyptostroboides, Taxodium ascendens, Taxodi-um distichum and they were choosed as the test sample plants. In order to study the physiological changes of Metasequoia glyptostroboides, Taxodium ascendens, Taxodium distichum. They were used to measure phenologi-cal period and physiological index, to analyse the changes of chlorophyll, anthocyanin, soluble sugar content during the color-changing period in autumn-winter and to study their correlation with temperature, light, humidity through experiment. At the same time studied leaves change in different habitat conditions. Outstanding views with Metasequoia glyptostroboides, Taxodium ascendens, Taxodium distichum at Quyuanfenghe, Guozhuang, Botanical Gardens, Hupao park, Qingshan Lake in Lin’an and ZJ A&F University were selected as cases. Started with a point, line, surface’s basic spatial elements, each sample was classefied, analyzed and evaluated. And analysed the ornamental characteristics, plant configuration ways and garden applications effectiveness of Metasequoia glypto-stroboides, Taxodium ascendens, Taxodium distichum. Through the study, the results were as follows:1. Field observationon on the ZJ A&F University revealed that "the three fir"plants sprouted in early April, and a preferable view could be represented in2weeks. The leaves of Metasequoia glyptostroboides began to tum yellow in early October, and changed into yellow fully in late October, and completely detached in late November. The leaves of Taxodium ascendens and Taxodium distichum began to turn red in mid-October, later than Metase-quoia glyptostroboides, and changed into red mostly in early November, and completely detached in late December. Metasequoia glyptostroboides who was in water detached was earlier than in land, Taxodium ascendens and Taxodium distichum wre opposited. The reason was that Taxodium ascendens and Taxodium distichum were more resistant to water wet than Metasequoia.2. The experiment indicated that the chlorophyll content of the leaves of "the three fir" was gradually reduced during autunm-winter, the anthocyanin and soluble sugar content were increased during the color-changing period in autumn-winter. And their leaves turned form green to yellow or red. From the observations, various indicators were obvious between the sunny side leaves and shady side leaves of "the three fir". The sunny side leaves turned more quickly than the shady side leaves, the period of red leaves was much longer and landscape effects was much better than the shady side. Under the different habitat conditions, the chlorophyll, anthocyanin and soluble sugar content of Metasequoia glyptostroboides who was live in water was less than who was in land, Taxodium ascendens and Taxodium distichum were opposite. Temperature and chlorophyll content was positively correlated, and with anthocyanin and soluble sugar content was negatively correlated.3."The three fir"were water wet, ofren were used in wetlands or water, forming a large area of wet land or water forests. Studied on their leaves changes of physiological index in the fall and winter, Taxodium ascendens and Taxodium distichum failed in swamp wetland and water application landscape effect were better than Metasequoia glyptostroboides; On the other hand they were tall, whose crown was forming columnar or pointed pagoda, coupled with rich plant landscape scenery in different seasons. They were so much suitable for applicating in scene, group view and background, and they were planted with architecture, pavilion, gallery, roads and so on, which forming the unique space, color landscape effect. The change of physiological index from their leaves in the fall and winter, the crown of the sun side whose red period were just longer than whose in shady side. Therefore the application of daylighting should be paid attention to them in the course of such landscape effect, which would be forming better landscape.
