A pot experiment was conducted of five shading conditions, which respectively areshading rates of CK(0%), T1(60%), T2(80%), T3(85%), T4(93%) of Nanchang locoalOplismenus undulatifolius to study its shade-endurance capacity. We studied the changesof plant morphological, leaf anatomical structure and various physiological indexes (thecontent of relative water, soluble sugar, chlorophyll, proline, soluble protein, MDA and theactivity of POD) from April to October in2012. The results showed that:1. The effects of shading stress on growth morphological of Oplismenus undulatifoliuswas significant. It delayed its optimum growing season clearly and extend its growth cycle. Its ornamental value is highest under the shading rate of80%, because it could rapidlyexpand, has higher cover degree, leaves’ color is green and luster, meanwhile, its greenperiod is long.2. Carries on the observation of Oplismenus undulatifolius’leaf anatomical structure todiscover, its epidermal cells was large and contained more chloroplasts, the cutinmembrane was thin, preliminary determined that it belongs shadow resistance plants. Theeffects of shading stress on anatomical structure of Oplismenus undulatifolius wassignificant. And under the80%shading level, the cutin membrane was the thinnest, vascular bundle number was the least, adaptability was the best.3. Different shade degree to various physiological indicators of Oplismenusundulatifolius has a significant effect, in the mass, the content of relative water, chlorophyll a and b, proline, MDA and the activity of POD in diffrent shading treatmentswere higher than in full exposure, the soluble sugar content, chlorophyll a/b ratio, andsoluble protein content(except T1) were lacker; Compared with the growth mostproductive period, In the flowering period, the content of relative water(except T4),chlorophyll a and b, soluble sugar, proline, soluble protein, MDA and the activity of PODwere reduced in different degree, while the chlorophyll a/b ratio was increased. Suggestingthat shading caused a loss to Oplismenus undulatifolius, and the damage was greater overtime. But it could react quickly for resisting the shading adversity through a series ofphysiological change.Under the shading rate of80%, the chlorophyll content reached itspeak, the ratio of chlorophyll a/b less than that under other environments, the prolinecontent accumulated rapidly, and the activity of POD achieved its maximum; In addition, with the shade the extension of time, the accumulation process of proline content becameinapparent, meanwhile the activity of POD decline. It illustrated Oplismenus undulatifoliushas the most positive adjustment ability for this shading stress, and was suitable to theenvironment. But under the85%shading rate, the soluble sugar content of Oplismenusundulatifolius increased instead of decrease, and its decrement dropped suddenly in theflowering period. This showed that the shadow resistance of Oplismenus undulatifolius was stronger in85%shading rate than others.4. According to the data, Oplismenus undulatifolius is a shade-tolerance groundcoverplan. It is suitable to cultivate the about80%shading condition where the higher canopydensity and relatively strong shade resistance under the trees or beside the buildings as anexcellent shadow tolerance groundcover plant.
