Chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium) is one of the most important ornamentals, has high ornarnental and economic value, and enjoying a major share of the cutting flower market worldwide. Autumn-Cutting Chrysanthemum morifolium is typical short day plant (SDP), and during the production process light is used to control the flowering time. Therefore it has very important practial significance and theoretical value to study the effects of light on growth and flowering of autumn-cutting Chrysanthemum. Using autumn-cutting Chrysanthemum ’jinba’ as material, this article was focused on the effects of light period, light intensity, light quality and five different light sources on grwoth and flowering. The main results and conclusion are listed as follows:1. Using autumn-cutting Chrysanthemum ’Jinba’ as material, and plant growth lamp, incandescent lamp, energy-saving lamp, fluorescent lamp, high pressure sodium lamp were used as for night breaking of’Jinba’, the effects of different five light sources on growth and flowering of cut chrysanthemum’Jinba’ was investigated. The results indicated that cut chrysanthemum of different treatments all meet the commodity requirements. Among them, fluorescent-treated chrysanthemum showed significant difference than other treatments in regard of stem length, leaf numbers, leaf fresh weight, leaf dry weight, stem dry weight, stem dry weight. Taken together, fluorescent treatment have the advantages of vigorous growth, maximum stem diameter, internode length, and flower dry weight. Compared with the other light resource, fluorescent lamp is more suitable for artificial supplemental light resource of cut chrysanthemum production.2. Energy-saving lamps for plant gorwth were used as light sources, and effects of different light intensity and duration on growth and flowering of ’Jinba’ was studied, the results showed that light intensity and duration had significant effects on chrysanthemum production. With the rise of light period, plant height, leave numbers, leave fresh and dry weight, lateral stem fresh and dry weight, and stalk diameter aslo increased, while number of tubular florets were decreased. With the increase of light intensity, stem diamer leave numbers, leave dry weight, the number of tubular florets increased, while number of ray florets decreased. But considering the energy saving, it is not good for the light intensity as strong or the light duration as long as possible, it should choose the light conditions according to the production. The study showed that with3h lighting period and2.52μmol m-2S-1lighting intensity can not only produce good production but also save the energy.3. This article argues about effects of light quality on growth and flowering of autumn-cutting Chrysanthemum, to provide guidance for the production of cut chrysanthemum. Using’Jinba’ as material, five different types of fluorescent including white light (W), blue light (B), green light (G), yellow light (Y), and red light (R) were used as supplementary light sources, creating a same light intensity with different light quality environment. Physiological parameters were observed and the final result indicates that blue light can promote the increase in stem diameter growth and lateral branches growth, yellow light inhibit the growth of lateral branches, green light induce the lowest chlorophyll content, red light make the hightest chlorophyll a/b content, the number of tubular florets of white light treatment significantly more than the treatments of red light, the green light treatment lead to the least number of ray florets, significantly less than yellow treantment and white treatment. Chrysanthemum that treated with red light and white light grow better and have a good quality, and green light is not suitable for production applications.
