Water-soluble organic carbon (SWOC) is the most active and movable component in soilorganic carbon pool. Its flow to water through riparian zone is an important part of carbon cyclein forest ecosystem, and riparian zone become the most sensitive areas to SWOC. ChoosingWuyi mountain which has the complete vegetation belts as experimental field, this studyanalyzed the distribution characteristics of SWOC across the riparian zone of different altitudeand its relationship with soil physical and chemical factors. The results indicated:(1)Soil SWOC contents of riparian zone decreased along the soil moisture gradient, and thedifference between upland and near stream area is significant; This indicated that water can havea big influence on the distribution of SWOC in riparian zone.(2)The average content of Soil SWOC on the riparian zone increased along the elevationgradient. That is to say, Evergreen Broadleaved Forest<Conifer Forest<Dwarf Forest<AlpineMeadow; Because the natural factors such as temperature, soil moisture, soil type andvegetation type are different in each elevation, and these factors may influence the distribution ofSWOC.(3)SWOC became smaller when soil layer became deeper; One the one hand, the fine rootsand letters always concentrated on the soil surface. One the other hand, soil moisture and soilmicroognism decreased when soil layer become deeper.(4)Correlation analyze revealed that Total Organic Carbon, Microbial Biomass Carbon andSoil Moisture are positive correlated with SWOC, so they could be the main factors controllingWater-soluble organic carbon. This paper focuses on the distribution characteristic of SWOC along the water andaltitudinal gradient, and then analyzed the impact factors. This carried out a preliminary study incarbon cycling of riparian zone, as well as the region’s role played in global change.
