Nowadays with the deep understanding of the renewable nature source, theapplication of plant source biomass becomes more and more widely. Biomasscan be used in chemistry, biotechnology, composite materials, food, medicine,energy industry and so on. The biomass is a truly renewable and degradableenergy resource which has a plentiful store in nature. To improve the applicationefficiency of biomass in every field, the grinding technology can be applied atthis time. This article is focused on the research of grinding process of the bio-mass which is of great significance compared to the preparation of the raw ma-terial, the improving of the property, the optimization of the process and thedecreasing of the energy. During grinding, the impact factors of the processingare of great number, so the process is complicated and energy consumption ofgrinding impacts the biomass utilization directly.The biomass material is widely used in energy industry. The woody powderand palm kernel shell (PKS) can be burnt alone or with the coal to provideenergy. This method is environment-friendly, energy saving and waste utiliza-tion. Currently, the developed countries like Japan and Europe are doing the re-lated research. This article has researched the pulverization processing of woodychip and PKS, and obtained the difference in the powder prosperities like par-ticle size distribution, density, uniformity coefficient for different feeding rate,different moisture content, etc. In addition, this article has summarized thecomparison of characteristics with using different mill on woody chip.At the same time, torrefaction as a pretreatment method also affects thegrinding process a lot which will all be discussed in this research. The researchshows that toffefaction can decrease the specific energy consumption of thewoody chip and PKS during grinding. Meanwhile, with the increasing of torre-faction temperature and time, the specific energy consumption is decreasing aswell which has a great importance to the design of the real manufacturingprocess.
