The great development of automobile industry results in large amount of vehiclestock and an increasing of traffic accidents year by year, leading to a number ofcasualties, vehicle damage and property loss. Hence, vehicle safety gets more andmore attention rescent years.Metal honeycomb is widely used in aerospace field because of its high strength,high energy absorption capability and low density, and now has been gradually appliedin ship, rail transportation and automobile industry, with its mechanical and impactproperties directly related to the integrity and safety of the structure.In this paper, themechanics properties and the dynamic collision energy absorption performance ofmetal honeycomb are researched, with models of automobile metal honeycomb energyabsorption device.Firstly, a brief of the developments of automobile passive safety at home andabroad is revealed; Secondly, the theory of material structure and the energy absorptionanalysis method is introduced. Thirdly, metal honeycomb endergonic theoreticalformula is derived and calculated based on theory of metal plastic deformation. Finaly,the mechanical property and energy absorption of metal honeycomb under dynamicload in different planes are simulated with LS-DYNA, a kind of finite element analysissoftware.The research methods of this paper are references for the crashworthinessresearch of other types of honeycombs. Meanwhile, the conclusions provide certainreferences in the field of the design and research in auto positive impact performance.
