Expansion of power grid and existence of interconnected network and large scale network have made the structure of power grid more and more complicated. Operations of power grid brought higher and higher requirements for the control of voltage. On one hand, percent of pass of voltage and safety of power grid have to be ensured, and on the other hand, loss and maintenance cost of power grid have to be lowered to earn more economic benefits. Reactive power optimization is a traditional subject in power system operation and control. It is not only an effective means to ensure power system operates securely and economically, but also one of the most important measures to reduce the transmission loss and improve the voltage quality. The study of reactive power optimization in power system is of great significance.With the continuous development of power grid and electric power system reform gradually deepening, people’s attention to the problem of voltage and reactive power degree increase. It is not only the power quality problems, and for the safe and economic operation of power system, ensure the safety of users of production and product quality as well as the electrical equipment safety and service life, etc, all have important influence, but also the embodiment of the electric power enterprise’s management level.Reactive power optimization is a large-scale nonlinear optimization problem with a large number of variables and uncertain parameters, the operating variables include continuous and discrete variables, the optimization becomes very complex. According to the characteristics of reactive power optimization, lots of algorithms are proposed. At present widely used methods are non-linear programming, linear programming, mixed-integer programming intelligence algorithm and primal-dual interior point method. This paper has done a lot of work.This paper introduces the problem of power system reactive power optimization research purpose and significance, elaborated the development of the domestic and foreign research present situation, summarizes the applied in power system reactive power optimization problem of all kinds of optimization algorithm, and analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of the optimization algorithm. Aiming at the existence of regional power grid, such as the basic data is incomplete, inaccurate and other issues, use MATLAB state estimation procedure, as a case study of IEEE14node system using weighted least square method for the simulation calculation, and the data results are analyzed.Combined with the actual situation of De Zhou power grid and the reactive power optimization of reduced gradient algorithm, proposed the design of the control system of power grid voltage reactive power optimization operation principle and control strategy, on the premise of ensuring safe operation of power grid and equipment, voltage reactive power optimization control, realize the reactive power compensation equipment reasonable investment, balance and voltage stability of reactive layer. Combined with De Zhou AVC system put into operation, the state estimation and reduced gradient method is adopted, through the analysis of the reactive power optimization of Texas power grid put forward effective solutions, and through the practice results show reactive power optimization can improve system voltage stability, decrease network loss and less reliable equipment number.The field application indicated that, the AVC system can cause the dispatcher automated system to serve well for the electrical power system, reduce the labor intensity which the attendant dispatches artificially, was the modern electrical network security, the stable movement and the optimized control has provided the advanced technical method, had the remarkable economic efficiency and the broad market prospect.
