The three kinds of typical damping groove are constant flow section,variable flow section,and combination flow section.The dapming grooves flow areas of the spherical valve plate in axial piston pump were analyzed numerically. An analytical method of flow area was put forward. The results and equivalent area got from flow field simulation were compared. The flow ripple curve was obtained by using the flow area based on AMESim simulation model. The research results showed that this method of calculating damping groove flow area has specific physical significance and high computational accuracy. Damping groove flow area has a great influence on the flow ripple of piston pump.The background and significance of this issue about flow ripple of swash plate axial piston pump is presented. The history and current research progress on flow area of damping groove, ripple of axial piston pump,noise reduction in axial piston pump are reviewed. Lastly, the main research subjects are summarized.The determination and analytic calculation method on the flow area of spherical distribution flow damping groove were introduced respectively: damping orifice, U-shaped groove and V-shaped groove. The values of damping groove flow areas were calculated through MathCAD software programming, and the curve characteristic of various damping groove flow areas were analyzed.Fluid between piston cavity and the plate was established basin simulation model, and carried out flow field simulation analysis using FLUENT software. The pressure-flow values of piston cavity were obtained under different opening and the flow area value was deduced through the formula for calculating the flow of damping groove. The flow area curves were compared between analytic calculation and simulation calculation, and the main reason for the error about flow area curves between the two methods. Lastly, the flow area curve of the spherical valve plate was developed.The flow ripple of piston pump was studied through computer simulation, and using AMESim software combined with obtained flow area, oil compressibility and simple gap leakage between pistons. It was analyzed that damping groove flow area had an influence on the flow backward of piston cavity, and damping groove flow area had an influence on the flow ripple of piston pump, and different working conditions had an influence on the flow of piston cavity and piston pump.It was studied that damping groove of the spherical valve plate in swash-plate axial piston pump had an influence on the flow ripple, based on numerical simulation, FLUENT simulation, AMESim simulation, etc. The research results are fundamental to the optimal design of damping groove in transition zone and have some value for the noise study on swash-plate axial piston pump with spherical valve plate.
