Ship electric propulsion system facilitates automation, intelligence, information and the management of computer network, which is the main trend of the ship technology development. Physical simulation research of electric propulsion system, which can discover running principles, accumulate experience and data is helpful to design and operation of system. This project, with characteristics of electric propulsion ship, designed a dual power supply mode energy-feedback electric propulsion experiment platform, realized real-time monitoring and done some research of energy efficiency. This platform is a small proportion physical simulation for electric propulsion system, whose feature is physical simulation and energy efficiency..This paper firstly introduced integrated design of system which is divided into power station system, variable frequency speed regulation system and monitoring system, focused on the analysis of functional requirements of the monitoring system, direct torque control principle of induction motor and their control structures. The monitoring system is designed and realized including hardware components, fieldbus network and control program. Based on the monitoring system, research for system energy efficiency is carried out:it analyzed energy flow in different running conditions, defined the energy consumption ratio and analyzed the relationship between energy consumption and system efficiency, established rectifier simulation modes using the FFT to research the system harmonic characteristics, analyzed power factor characteristics between propulsion side and load side. Finally, the experiments related are conducted. The energy efficiency is verified by system energy experiments. The harmonic characteristics are explained in system harmonic experiments by measure harmonic distortion and waveforms of voltage and current. The basis for actual system performance optimization and control is provided by harmonic trend of system typical conditions in load simulation experiment.
