With the rapid social and economic developments as well as the increasing material and cultural needs of our country, the bridge is no longer just an engineering entity which passes over barriers and benefits our travelling,but also a perfect tridimensional work of art in our living space. People’s pursuit of bridge aesthetics contributes to more and more irregular bridges with novel structural forms and unique shapes and some of these bridges have even become local landmarks. Irregular arch bridges become popular because of its nice、special and variable appearance.However, irregular arch-beam composite bridges have their own particularities. Compared with other arch-beam composite bridges,the structural form and mechanic behaviors of irregular arch bridge are more complex and special. And different irregular arch-beam composite bridges have different structural features so that each new type of irregular arch-beam composite bridges could bring out many new problems to solve.At present,the researches on irregular arch-beam composite bridges have just begun which are fairly insufficient so that the study on the mechanic characteristics and the construction control of irregular arch bridges becomes quite necessary. Northern Central Bridge in Taiyuan City is introduced in this thesis as the engineering background and the main research contents are as follows.(1) The basic form and mechanical characteristics of arch-beam composite bridges are introduced; Besides, strengths and weaknesses and development trends of irregular arch-beam composite bridges are summarized.(2) The basic concept of structural behavior is introduced; Besides, structural behavior of the bridges are summarized.(3) Space beam element finite element analysis methods are introduced; Besides,the finite element handling characteristics of irregular arch-beam composite bridges are analyzed and with the help of finite element analysis software,the calculation model of the bridge is created.(4) Based on the finite element model,the structural behaviors of the bridge cables are studied;(5) The mechanic behaviors of the steel arch,the main beam and the support are studied according to the finite element analysis results;(6) Based on the engineering background,the construction control of the bridge is discussed.
