Limit state method is the development direction of engineering structure design, which is based on reliability theory. It is very difficult to communicate with foreign counterparts, if we still use the safety factor design method. And it is also not conducive to the promotion and application of our railway technology in the international arena. So the domestic design codes transition is of great significance. In the light of this situation, this thesis made a systematic research on limit state design method of gravity and balance weight retaining wall. The main research contents of this paper are shown as follows:1.This paper established the limit state equation of anti-sliding stability, anti-overturning stability and the base bearing capacity of gravity retaining wall. Through the single factor sensitivity analysis, the key random variables involved in the performance function were determined. The statistical parameters of the key random variables were collected. Finally the average value态mean squared error and coefficient of variation also were adoptd.2.It has been discussed that advantages and disadvantages of the current calculation of reliability index. This paper adopted the Monte Carlo method to calculate the reliability index of retaining walls. The program of calculation the retaining wall reliability index also has been completed.3.The design conditions of gravity retaining wall are very complex, including the general area, seismic area and water area. For the retaining wall designed by safety factor method, the reliability indexes of anti-sliding, anti-overterning and the base bearing capacity were calculated and analyzed. The target reliability indexes of anti-sliding, anti-overterning and the base bearing capacity were suggested.4.The function of partial coefficient of the limite state design has been presented in this paper. This paper adopted the "general separation method" in the whole calculation process. And the calculation results have been checked.5.At last, this paper initially formed the limit state design expression of the gravity retaining wall.
