Contact line works as a powered line and it is also a slide of pantograph. The height of contact line is an important parameter for pantograph and catenary system. Controlling the height of contact line strictly is a basic guarantee for making the dynamic performance of pantograph-catenary worked well. The dynamic performance of pantograph-catenary is one of the main factors which can limit the speed of the train. During the construction, operation and maintenance process, the height of contact line sometimes will shift from the original design value. If this problem cannot be adjusted in time, the coupling degree of pantograph-catenary will go bad, the vibration of pantograph-catenary will become more serious, finally, the aging process of equipments will be accelerated. To ensure the train works safety and reliable, the controlling method for the height of contact line should be studied.Firstly, studying the factors which effecting the design of the height of pantograph-catenary, studying the requirements for designing the height of pantograph-catenary in the electrified railway. When select the contact wire height, the factors such as:vehicle gauge, the working scope of pantograph, ultra-high case of freightage, the height of tunnel should be considered. What’s more, while designing the catenary, the maximum and minimum values of contact wire height, the maximum slope and change of slope should be defined clearly.Secondly, studying the characteristics of contact suspension by using classical force theory, analyzing the factors which make the contact wire height changed. The factors which impact the change of contact wire height include:the situation of contact suspension point, the values of contact suspension power, the values of contact suspension tension and the alteration of load on the contact suspension.Then, we create catenary model and finite element simulation model to study the controlling methods of contact wire height. We propose four kinds of controlling methods, including:changing the situation of bottom of load-bearing rope by adjusting the status of cantilever of steady arm, adjusting the installation site of locator, adjusting the suspension chord length, adjusting the tension of contact line and suspender cable in catenary. Meanwhile, we introduce a parameter called the sensitivity of contact wire height controlling to analyzing the characteristics of this four methods on controlling the contact wire height.Finally, according to the real project, create catenary model and finite element simulation model which are based on the real measured geometrical parameter of catenary. Using the characteristics of four methods on controlling the contact wire height, we can quantitative study the control scheme with different contact wire height problems. By using the model to compare the different between adjusted contact wire height and original design value, we can test and verify the rationality of adjust-controlling methods. This paper can provide the theoretical support for catenary’s construction, operation, and maintenance.
