CAE method that is used in the R&D of steel wheels can greatly shorten thedevelopment time and reduce R&D costs. Main research in this article aims to applyCAD/CAE technology in the wheel bending fatigue test bench simulation. Thethree-dimensional design software, finite element software, and fatigue analysissoftware are applied to automotive steel wheel design. The fast and accurate wheeldesign is achieved to reduce the number of repeated tests and to greatly improvesteel wheels first test pass rate.(1) CAD software Pro/E is applied to steel wheel spokes, rims modeling. In thedesign process, the valve hole in the rim position and some of the lead angle aresimplified. The modeling techniques for steel wheel in Pro/E are summed up. Wholesteel wheel modeling steps is described.Describes the method of submit the model in ABAQUS/Standard module and viewthe results of analysis.(2) The features and functions of finite element software ABAQUS is summarized.Three-dimensional model of steel wheel is imported to ABAQUS. The materialproperties of spokes and rims are given. The relationship between the assemblyparts is established. Meshing and analysis step is set. Contact attributes, constraintsand boundary conditions are defined. Finite element analysis model of the steelwheel bending fatigue test are built using ABAQUS. The precautions in the processof the finite element modeling in ABAQUS are summed up through the study of theentire process.(3) The features of fatigue analysis software FE-SAFE are described. The process offinite element analysis results into FE-SAFE is given. Load applying, materialproperty set and analysis submission to the model are represented. The method ofgiving to model, And the method of submitting operation. The predicted value and thereal fatigue life value are compared. Comparative results indicate that forecast is thesame to the real position damage. This article focuses on research the entire process of geometry design, finite elementmodeling, and fatigue life prediction in the R&D of steel wheel. the feasibility of theprogram are proved through such a process attempts and analysis, and predictioncomparison with real experimental values, A new quickly D&R technical route isprovide to steel wheel company.
