ER Automatic Clutch is a new type of Automatic Clutch and has many advantages suchas long service life and good controllability. So its research and application is of greatsignificance to promote the development of AMT for economic cars. Based on theinnovation project of Science and Technology Department of Jilin Province------" Researchon the Electrorheological Automatic Clutch for Economic Car ", this paper has researchedon the Integrated Design of the ER Automatic Clutch. Its main contents are as following:At first, this paper analyses the application, mechanism and mechanical model of theelectrorheological effect. And then torque transfer model in the shear mode is established forthe two types of ER Automatic Clutch, the parallel disc type ER Automatic Clutch and theconcentric cylinder type ER Automatic Clutch. The concentric cylinder type ER AutomaticClutch is selected as a representative and its influence factors of transmitted torque,transmission efficiency, speed adjustable range, and controllable coefficient are analyzed.The modified titanium oxide/acrylamide particles doped with chromium ionselectrorheological fluid is prepared. And by the performance test of the preparedelectrorheological fluid, the fitting curve of the shear stress changing with the electric fieldintensity is obtained.Secondly, by the comparative analysis of the parallel disc type ER Automatic Clutchand the concentric cylinder type ER Automatic Clutch, the structure form of the basictransmission mechanism is selected. Then, for the multi concentric cylinder structure, thedesign parameters’ influence on transmitted torque and moment of inertia is analyzed andconduct analysis and optimization of the design parameters. By combining with thestructure of gearbox, mechanical properties of electrorheological fluid, and torquetransmission requirements of economic cars, finish design of the basic transmissionmechanism.Thirdly, analysis and design of the control mechanism and auxiliary mechanism are conducted. The control mechanism contains the locking device, the speed reduction deviceand electric field adjusting device. The auxiliary mechanism contains the torsional vibrationreduction device, the liquid filling device and cooling device. Then, based on the researchand design of the above mechanisms, complete the integrated design of the ER AutomaticClutch and the working process of the clutch is described in detail.Finally, using Matlab/Simulink, this paper builds the vehicle simulation model, whichcontains the engine model, ER Automatic Clutch torque transmission model, ER fluidtorque transmission model and driving resistance model. And then the torque outputcharacteristics of the designed ER Automatic Clutch during vehicle starting is simulated andanalyzed. At last, the principle prototypes of the parallel disc type ER Automatic Clutch andthe concentric cylinder type ER Automatic Clutch are manufactured. Bench tests areconducted to investigate the torque transmission characteristics, operation stabilitycharacteristics and friction characteristics of the two principle prototypes.The research of the ER Automatic Clutch is conducive to getting rid of disadvantagesof existing dry friction clutch, enhancing and improving control and operation performanceof the clutch. Also, it can promote industrialization and commercialization of AMT foreconomic cars, and not only apply to passenger vehicle AMT system, but also be applied totransmission system of buses and commercial vehicles. The research lays a foundation forthe design and development of the ER Automatic Clutch and also has a certain guidingsignificance and practical value in its future application and promotion.
