Data mining is from a large, incomplete, noisy, fuzzy and random data, in which the extraction of implicit, previously unknown useful information, pattern and the trend, and guide to practice. With the growing scale of dam engineering and monitoring information accumulation, dam safety monitoring information timely processing analysis is more and more difficult, how to manage effectively and applied these monitoring in dam safety detection system, It’is very important. After decades of accumulation, dam monitoring data volume reached a larger size, and these data have complexity such as nonlinear, multi factor, high noise, non gauss distribution and correlation. Therefore, monitoring data has good mining conditions. The main contents are as follows:(1) It is necessary and complexity for dam safety monitoring, and it’s important to develop the data mining systemof dam safety monitoring; Combining with the data mining technology and putting forward the concept of dam safety monitoring data mining.(2Researching the data mining and methods.Focusing on the decision tree, artificial neural network algorithm, K nearest neighbor algorithm.studying related theory and technical support of dam monitoring technology.(3) Analysising the principle for construction of dam safety monitoring system. Making up the system of dam safety monitoring. Stuaying fieldbus technology and the architecture of data acquisition system, at last, deteming he dam safety monitoring system.(4) Studying and comparing the main algorithm of data mining, and selecting the data mining model.(5) Analyzing the data visualization and the data mining method. Discussing methods of multidimensional data visualization for dam monitoring information and visual data mining.At last, a summary of the paper is given and further research interests are also proposed.
