A-pillar bear the weight of the car roof, and very important to the structure of a car. But driver’s sight is easily sheltered by A-pillar, and form blind spot when driving, Traffic accident happens easily in this case. Therefore, more attention has been focused on the blind spot formed by A-pillar. Considering the security and comfort of a car, this paper using the "electronic-lucency" concept researched A-pillar blind spot elimination system based on DSP (Digital Signal Processor).This project built a hardware platform of A-pillar blind spot elimination system with CCD (Charge Coupled Device) camera, SSD-DM642development board and LCD (Liquid Crystal Display). Road condition and driver’s location video signal is collected by Dual-channel in real time. TMS320DM642is working as a core processor for tracking location of the driver’s eyes. Then the real-time road condition video image is segmented based on this location of driver’s eyes. Finally, the segmented video image is magnified and redisplayed on the LCD installed in the car, realizing "the image changes with the moving of driver’s vision point" and "seamless connection". Core technology of this project is tracking of driver’s eyes in real time. Aimed at the problem of adaptive deficiency and low operation rate in traditional algorithms, this project also proposed a new real-time location algorithm of driver’s eyes, which could be used in a complicated condition. Firstly, driver’s face is detected based on the YCbCr skin color space, then driver’s eyes and eyebrow and eye area is detected by changing the traditional Integral Projection method. After that, driver’s iris is detected by combining the Hough Transformation. The Canny Operator and driver’s angle of view is detected finally.In this paper, elimination system of A-pillar blind spot based on DSP is designed by researching driver’s angle of view location and segmentation of the real-time road condition video image sheltered by A-pillar. Using abundant on-chip resource and powerful operational capability of the TMS320DM642as a core processor, the system is effective to eliminate A-pillar blind spot.
