Gas switches have been widely applied in pulsed power technology, and plays a special important position, and the switch is one of important factors in pulsed power technology. Switch the insulation gas between the electrodes, to withstand high voltage assumes a high impedance state, gas breakdown after the formation of plasma channel is in a conducting state, thus realize the switch function. The switch is determined by the character of the pulse power signal rise time, amplitude, pulse width and other parameters. Parameter switching turn-on process of the resistance and inductance determines the pulse. In order to improve the reliability, reduce the cost of design, shorten the design cycle, modeling and simulation is very necessary.Firstly, the basic principle and the influence of discharge of gas spark switch factors were discussed and concluded:switch electric field is uniform, discharge stability; continuous voltage relative to the under impulse voltage, discharge time delay and breakdown voltage gas switch dispersion should be small; gas species, density, humidity and pressure have a decisive role on the discharge characteristics.Secondly, the work mechanism of gas spark switch is analyzed, according to the gas switch as the typical discharge process of short-circuit switch, belonging to the capacitor discharge, puts forward the model of gas spark switch. The spark resistance before switching nonlinear use fixed resistor or a variable resistor discharge simulation in place of the actual discharge process, there is a big error, presents a simulation method based on Pspice. In the environment of Pspice simulation model of gas spark switch discharge is established, simulated respectively based on ideal switch and based on capacitor discharge gas switch pulse generating circuit, and the simulation analysis of the load, the switch inductance, influence of the energy storage capacitor on the characteristics of discharge pulse. Finally, build the experimental platform of gas spark switch discharge, discharge characteristic experiment of gas spark switch are developed, verified the correctness of the simulation method based on Pspice.
